autostitch

ah i've neglected this page for quite awhile (once again).. doubt anyone is still reading.. i'll update nonetheless.. just a lot of things goin on this summer and not much time left for photography or blogging.. will try to get some pics up here, but probably won't spend too much time postprocessing..

i did rediscover autostitch this summer tho.. i thought it had died and been licensed off to random photo software after the link disappeared from the ubc site and my demo version expired.. it's alive and well here and doesn't seem to have an expiry date.. yay.. it's exactly the same tool and just as easy as before.. select the pics and it makes the pano for u =)

here's a low rez panorama from my cancun trip earlier this summer.. i did morph it after putting it together with autostitch.. the view is from our hotel balcony..

my editing

heh k oscar, sorry for taking so long.. i started out just playing with picasa's highlights and shadows.. in photoshop it works out to be similar to the levels tool where highlights is the right bracket and shadows is the left bracket.. it's pretty much just upping the contrast..

here's the original.. u can see it's kinda gray and washed out..
IMG_6712

i start out raising highlights until the bright spots start burning out and turning white.. u can see a patch of sky in the middle stretching to the left thats starting to turn white..
IMG_6712-1

lowered the shadows until darker parts turned too dark.. here the areas around the corona are darkening..
IMG_6712-2

i think picasa saturates the pics when u play with the levels so i desaturate a little for normal pics.. here i desaturated to the point where theres just enough colour without looking drab.. i like the high contrast desaturated look..
IMG_6712-3

and crop, putting things on the thirds.. didn't really need to crop.. feels kinda cramped
IMG_6712-4

thats it.. tweak and use other tools from there to add ur own taste.. i usually keep the edited pic around to let it soak in and do something else.. i'll come back to retweak a couple times..

overnight in the labs

IMG_5600
mc lab

this was probably the best term yet.. got to experience the multiple late nights in the comp labs workin on os.. it wasn't really all that stressful though.. group members probably didn't like the late nights coding away but i thrive at night so i really didn't mind.. pic of some random guy was taken around 6 in the morning.. (i wonder if a university lab is considered a public place.. hm.. i'll expect a cease and desist letter from this guy..)

exams are done, with my share of battle wounds i need to tend to.. hysteria of being done the term hasn't hit yet.. it'll come eventually.. and all summer to celebrate..

edit: here's the original
